Do or Don’t: Neon nail polish

How rad is this bright yellow nail polish? Neon is a big trend this spring, and nail polish would be a fun way to be part of it without breaking the bank. My friend Abbey had neon yellow toes peeking out from her sandals the other day. Would you go for it?

P.S. These five colors are great, too.

6 spring nail polish trends

My twin sister texted me from a San Francisco nail salon the other day. Standing in front of endless rows of polish, she had no idea which shade to choose. "Which colors are 'cool' right now?" she asked. Well, after our half-joking conversation, I researched this season's nail polish trends, and ever since I've been noticing (and admiring) these gorgeous colors on pretty girls around the city. Nails are on fire this spring!

Which color, below, do you like best? What color is on your fingers and toes as we speak? (My nails are currently orange, but my next color will be mint:) xoxo
Six nail polish trends: Very pale pink (or even beige), mint, lavender, bright orange, fuchsia and orange/red. (Find similar colors here, too.)

Do or Don't: Black nail polish

The other day, I was watching the (surprisingly funny) show New Girl, and the gorgeous character Julia was wearing black nail polish. Instead of looking goth, her black polish looked grown-up and sexy. Since then, black nail polish has been popping up everywhere: pretty girls around town, celebrities at events, even the finalists on The Bachelor. :) What do you think? Would you wear it?

Wow.

The perfect nail polish for the holidays.

Dark red nail polish

New York suddenly feels like winter; tomorrow is even supposed to snow. Wouldn't dark red polish be gorgeous this winter? Sexy, dramatic and perfect with a wool sweater.

Would you wear it? What's the weather like where you are?

Galaxy nails

My darlings, have you ever tried galaxy nails? They're brainy, nerdy, playful and cool all at the same time--yet still elegant enough to wear to work. I keep spotting them on pretty ladies around our neighborhood. Here's how to get the cosmic look...

1. Get a dark blue nail polish for the base, plus a few lighter sparkly polishes (for stars and comets!). We went for Navy Baby, Laser, Spectrum and Diamonds.
2. Paint the dark blue on all your nails as the base layer.
3. Now layer the glittery colors over the dark blue, but over only parts of each nail. A swipe here, a dab there. Mix things up with each nail, since you want them all to look different.
4. Layer a lot, since, instead of your nails looking flat, you want to get that 3-dimensional look of a far-away galaxy, like you're gazing up at the night sky.

Found! The perfect wedding nail polish

I finally found the perfect pink. You know how pink polishes can end up looking grey, which makes your nails look dull? Instead, I wanted something bright, clean and pretty--finally, when my friend Elizabeth came to visit this month, she told me about Fiji, and it's beautiful. Honestly, this sounds ridiculous, but every time I look down at my toes, I feel a little thrill.

Now I wear it everyday, and if I were getting married all over again, I would wear this in a heartbeat! I'd highly recommend it, ladies. :)

Summer Uniform: Greek goddess

My sweets, do you have a favorite summer outfit? I'm excited to announce a new series on Cup of Jo, where I'll feature photos of stylish friends and show how to put together the look (mostly because I want to copy them myself!).

First up: My friend Kendra Smoot always looks gorgeous, but I especially love this ensemble (above) she wore on vacation in Greece. Relaxed, easy and beautiful, don't you think?

Here's how to get the look:
Polka-dot scarf: The Hill-Side, $50.
Round sunglasses: Halogen, $68.
Gray tee: LNA, $48.
Boyfriend shorts: Victoria's Secret, $44.50.
Gladiator sandals: Juicy Couture, $151, or Steve Madden, $42.
Pink nail polish: Essie, $8.

Do you have a summer uniform? xo

Summer nail polish

Refinery29 just wrote about the six coolest nail polish trends, and I'd love to try baby blue and very, very pale pink (I actually wore this exact pink at our wedding). Wouldn't they look pretty peeking out of sandals?

Do you have a nail-polish color you swear by?

Perfect nails

My friend Leigh always has pretty nail polish, but my jaw dropped when I saw her glittery gold manicure. They're actually Sally Hansen nail strips, which you apply like stickers! So they never smudge and don't need drying time. Aren't they amazing?

Sparkles

Found. The perfect nail polish for the holidays.

The perfect red nail polish

Yesterday Toby and I went on an adventure to the nail salon so that I could get a pedicure. (He was cuddled up in the sling and loved the massaging chair.) But the best part was that, after years of trial and error, I finally stumbled upon the PERFECT red nail polish! Most reds are too bright or too dark, but Essie's Fishnet Stockings is just right and made me feel like a 1920's starlet (despite wearing a T-shirt covered in spit-up). I'm loving it and would highly recommend it. xo

Space nails

My sister sometimes paints her nails rad colors (yellow, baby blue), so I think she'd love these space nails.
