What annoys you about your significant other?

I recently got an email from a reader, who was stressed because her boyfriend gets on her nerves. "I love him, but sometimes he really bugs me," she said. "Does Alex ever annoy you?" Here's my answer...

Made me laugh.

Socks in bed.

New York has been so chilly recently that I've been wearing hiking socks to bed. Hiking socks. It's super sexy, as you can imagine. This comic made me laugh out loud. Why are girls cold and guys hot as furnaces when they sleep? It's one of life's great mysteries.

Made me laugh.

Hilarious. I felt like this for most of my twenties.

Haiku for the Single Girl

The genius new book Haiku for the Single Girl made me laugh out loud. Each page features a haiku and illustration about real life when you're single.

"A woman never forgets what it's like to be single," says the author Beth Griffinhagen, who is a single New Yorker. "In different moments she may feel joyful and free, desperate and without options, amused, and frequently hopeful." Yes, don't you agree?

Have a wonderful weekend.

Thank you for such a great week talking about New York! I hope you enjoyed my guide; and thanks for leaving such great recommentions and funny comments. Have a wonderful weekend, and here are some New-York-City-themed links from around the web. Next week, we'll be back to regular scheduled programming! :)

Sounds of New York.

Skyline shower curtain.

If you live in New York, you'll end up crying in public.

Funny snow globe.

A candle that smells like the Times.

An I-Heart-New-York tee that's actually cool.

Taxi mittens.

New York City prints.

Speaking of where to live, here's a fascinating cost-of-living calculator.

And this Onion article made me laugh out loud.

A lego Empire State Building.

My friends are hosting a great event this weekend for moms and daughters.

A few past Cup of Jo posts about NYC:
* A subway poster.
* New Yorkers are nice.
* New York City Hall wedding.
* A wedding where the bride wore overalls!
* A genius hammock.
* What a hilarious book.
* Bill Murray being weird.

Also, we found a mouse in the apartment today, eeks. The perfect end to a week about New York City, haha! Have a good one. xoxo

Funny comics

In a seriously nerdy turn, I may or may not be newly obsessed with charts and comics.

San Francisco trip

This cartoon made me laugh out loud. (Are you guilty?:) While we're on vacation in San Francisco this week, however, I've scheduled five fabulous guest posters, who will be sharing their favorite summer things. Looking forward to catching up next Monday, with a new Motherhood Monday post and photos from our trip.

Have a wonderful week, my lovelies! xoxoxo

Baby trashes bar

Swedish director Johannes Nyholm made this hilarious short film, starring his baby, about a middle-aged woman on vacation trashing a bar. We were dying laughing -- even if you don't like watching videos online, you have to watch it.

(Thanks, Michael)

Jane Austen comic

Speaking of Jane Austen, here's a little comic. ;)

Let it dough!

Berlin-based artist Christoph Niemann and his three sons started playing around with cookie dough. How genius are their creations? See more here.

P.S. Their Legos from last year.

(Thanks, Lauren!)

I want to be her

Have you guys seen the amazing new site I Want to Be Her? Andrea Linett, the former creative director of Lucky, stops adorable women on the streets of New York and asks them about their style. Then she features an illustration or photo, along with the girls' fun styling tips, like where to find glow-in-the-dark spider earrings and the perfect black leggings. See her fabulous blog here.

Mantra

Remember this hilarious little dude? When I saw the illustration last year, I made it my mantra for whenever people left salty blog comments. (It's such a smart thing to keep in mind, so you don't take things too personally.) Well, now there's a letterpress print! Genius.

Hand-drawn marriage proposal

Illustrator Guy Shield knew he wanted to propose to his beautiful girlfriend Liz, but he didn't know how. Then, late one night, an idea struck him: He could draw a comic strip that would look normal, but, when folded up, would cleverly spell out "Will you marry me?"

Guy covertly worked for days, weeks, months on the comic, and finally, during a trip to Bali, he was ready to pop the question. "When the day came, I was a nervous wreck," he says. "After necking a beer at a nearby bar, I laid the piece across the hotel bed and asked Liz to fold it together." As she read the final message, he brought out the ring and dropped to one knee.

"The following five seconds felt like an hour of free-falling, fumbling for the parachute chord; my heart was in my throat as I waited for a response," he remembers. "Then, and only after telling me off for being so cheesy and proposing to her in Bali of all places, she said 'of course.'"

Creative Critics

Oh, my god, this cartoon is so hilarious. And so true. Being in a creative field is awesome except for moments like these, when you want to shoot yourself.
